”世界級的逢甲GIS中心” 逢甲大學地理資訊系統研究中心(GIS.FCU)於1995年正式成立,為國內第一個呈報教育部核准設立之GIS整合應用學術研究單位。本中心成立10餘年來,本著整合空間資訊的理念,以及對資訊創新的堅持,以地理資訊系統(Geographic Information Systems, GIS)、全球衛星定位系統(Global Positioning System, GPS)及衛星遙感探測(Remote Sensing, RS)等空間專業知識為核心,配合完整專案管理及軟體製程,協助解決多元環境決策問題,更帶動校內空間資訊教學及科技研究之互動,完成各類委辦及研究計畫近千件。 GIS.FCU近年來持續拓展兩岸及歐美地區產學合作計畫,今年更晉升為國際大地空間協會(Open Geospatial Consortium,OGC)之主要與戰略會員(principal and strategy member),全世界400個組織中僅有20個具有此會員資格,逢甲大學與Google, Oracle,美國國土安全部(DHS)、美國國家航空及太空總署(NASA)皆屬此會員等級。逢甲大學亦參與許多國際合作案,並於2010年與美國國家地理情報局(National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, NGA)發展嶄新機制協助海地震災之資訊傳遞工作;更參與地球觀測群(Group of Earth Observation, GEO)之倡議計畫,與歐洲太空總署(ESA)、德國海德堡大學共同發展災害觀測系統,為我國第一個進入此計畫的單位。 GIS.FCU近年來在軟體工程的領域上發展嚴謹之軟體製程及專案管理標準,除了具有紮實之軟功能力,更有完整之組織發展、教育訓練及業務推廣等能力,並於2008年5月順利取得CMMI認證,為國內唯一具有學術理想與實務發展整合能力之研究單位。
